A simple approach to daur and new lesson balance.
There is a well-known saying among Quran teachers: "Hifz is relatively easy, but maintaining it is the real jihad." It is a beautiful milestone when a student memorizes a new Surah or Juz, but without a structured system to lock it into long-term memory, that hard work can quickly fade. The Prophet Muhammad (๏ทบ) reminded us to take care of the Quran, comparing memorization to keeping a camel tiedโif you let it loose, it escapes.
To help our students at Academy Noor Ul Hidaaya maintain a rock-solid memory, we have broken down the definitive daily framework for a successful Hifz revision schedule.
A common mistake is focusing all your energy on memorizing new lines while neglecting what was memorized last week. A balanced schedule divides your daily Quran session into three distinct segments:
| Component | Arabic Term | Purpose | Recommended Time |
| New Lesson | Sabaq | Memorizing fresh verses | 20-30 minutes |
| Recent Revision | Sabqi | Reviewing the last 5-10 pages memorized | 15-20 minutes |
| Old Revision | Manzil / Daur | Reviewing older Juz for long-term retention | 30-45 minutes |
1. Perfect the Sabaq (Daily Goal: ~1 Page)
Before trying to memorize a new section, listen to a proficient Qari recite it to avoid burning mistakes into memory. Read the text until it flows flawlessly, then memorize verse by verse. Do not move forward until you can recite the full page from memory without a single stutter.
2. Reinforce the Sabqi (Daily Goal: Past 5 to 10 Pages)
The verses you memorized over the last few days are volatile. Recite the last 5โ10 pages you learned directly to a teacher or partner immediately after your new lesson to build long-term pathways and lock them into place.
3. Cycle the Manzil (Daily Goal: 1/2 to 1 Full Juz)
This is your long-term insurance policy. Cycle through your older memorized portions completely every 7 to 15 days to keep the text sharp, clear, and instantly retrievable.
